We’re off to a great 2014-15 school year!

Dear OMS parents and other community members,
Welcome to the 2014-15 School Year!
After two days complete, it almost feels as if we never left for the
summer.  Students are quickly adjusting to their school schedules and
routines.  It is wonderful to see their smiling faces and hear the buzz of
energy and excitement in the hallways and cafeteria.
For those of you that weren’t aware, I am
the new principal at OMS.  Although I’ve worked in the Oostburg School
District for the past 13 school years as the Director of Special Education and
School Psychologist, I am thrilled for the new challenge of moving OMS forward
as we reach for high levels of learning for both students and adults.  I
am both humbled and honored to be able to work alongside the dedicated staff
and amazing students here.
Another new face at OMS is Ms. Keri
Kimble.  Ms. Kimble is the new guidance counselor for grades 6-8. She will
be teaching a careers class to all children..  She is also available to
help your child if there are other social, emotional, or academic issues that
he/she may be having that is interfering with his/her ability to learn or
succeed in school.  Ms. Kimble will also play a critical role in helping
our students begin planning for the transition to high school and beyond.
In my opinion, the middle school years are
unlike any other.  Students enter 6th grade as children and leave at the
end of their 8th grade year as young adults.  The transformation in their
social, emotional, and cognitive development in three years is amazing and so
fun to watch.
I will be communicating through this blog
regularly throughout the school year.  Open communication is imperative
for your child’s success.  If you have topics that you would like covered
in my blogs, please email or call with your suggestions.  Likewise, if you
have questions or concerns regarding your child and their schooling, please
don’t hesitate to contact the staff or myself.  It takes a village to
raise a child and there’s no other place I’d rather be doing it than in
