As we round out the first week of December, if you are like me, you’ve been deep in thought about what to get your child(ren) for Christmas. My husband and I recently started a tradition of getting our children something to wear, something to read, something they want, and something they need. With that being said, as an educator, the something to read part is high on my list! Just in time for Christmas and your shopping needs, we will be having our annual Scholastic Book Fair at OMS next week. The times will be as follows:
Monday evening, 12/8/14: The book fair will be set up in the high school before, during, and after the OMS concert. It will be open from 5-8:30 pm.
Tuesday (12/9/14) to Friday (12/12/14), the book fair will be open in the MS cafeteria area before school (starting at 7 a.m.). during lunch, and after school (until 3:30 pm). Students will be able to shop during these times, but parents, grandparents, or other community members are also welcome.
Please help us encourage a love of reading and support our goal of increasing the number of students reaching and exceeding reading proficiency at their grade level by purchasing a book or three for your child or grandchild this Christmas. Although you can purchase books all over the place, Scholastic books are reasonably priced and the school receives free books for use in our classrooms that are directly related to the amount of books purchased. Therefore, you are spreading the gift of reading to a whole community of children.
The best way to improve reading is to increase reading volume or the amount of reading that a child does. Give your child the gift of reading this holiday season!
Looking forward to the wonderful concert that our band and chorus teachers and students have been preparing diligently for on Monday night at 7 pm in the HS gymnasium. Hope to see all of you there!
