I hope you had a nice spring break with family and that your children are refreshed and ready to get back at it. This time of year is very much the home stretch for teachers and students. As the weather gets warmer and brighter, we have lots of learning to squeeze in before we look forward to the summer months. Several upcoming field trips are also highlights for student learning outside of the classroom.
With this time of year, we also look toward planning for next year. Our summer school program is scheduled for June 22-25, June 29-July 2 (Session 1) and August 10-13, August 17-20 (Session 2). Our summer school programming is open to ALL students and addresses reading, writing, and math. A letter will be coming home soon with details and sign up information.
On Thursday, April 9 we invite you to attend an informational session describing our process in adopting a new math series K-12. Our teachers have been studying our math curriculum this year, and we are considering adopting a new series for the 2015-16 year and beyond. In this informational session, we will share our process for studying our curriculum, our process for choosing a new series, and how we would like to partner with parents to support our students in math. Please join us in the OES library at 6:30 p.m. to learn more about math at OES.
Statewide testing with the Badger Exam (grades 3-5) is scheduled for the weeks of April 27 and May 4th. More information will follow regarding how we can best prepare our students for taking this new test. This month’s guidance lessons focus on resilience, perseverance, and grit, all character traits that will help our students tackle tough problems in and outside of testing situations.
As we move through these last few months of school, please continue to stay in communication with us regarding your child’s progress or any questions or concerns you might have. Report cards will come home toward the end of this week. Although we do not have parent-teacher conferences this time of year, we welcome opportunities to discuss student progress and look forward to these conversations.
Have a great week!
