Summer Planning

Dear Parents,

I hope you’ve had an opportunity to express your appreciation to our teachers, who work so hard with your children each day. Because they spend about as much time (and some days even more) with your children as you do, I am particularly thankful that we have such a dedicated and loving staff that truly has your family’s best interest at heart. Thank you teachers for all you do for our students!

With a little more than one month left of school, I’m sure you are beginning to consider summer events and activities. There is still time to sign up for summer school at OES. The first session is scheduled for June 22-25 and June 29-July 2. The second session is scheduled for August 10-13 and August 17-20. Students who attend summer school will be able to continue their work in reading, writing, and math as well as have some fun with special games. Hope you’ll consider this great opportunity!

Next week Wednesday the high school Key Club will be leading our assembly, showing students some positive activities to do over the summer. Kids will have no reason to say “I’m bored” this summer. Please continue to check the Friday Folders for other summer events and activities that are happening all over the county. We continue to get new information each week.

Classrooms are also visiting our local library this month to hear about the summer reading program. Please take advantage of this wonderful program that encourages continued reading over the summer and also provides programs and incentives for kids to stay in books. Our students have worked so hard this year to achieve their reading goals, and we don’t want any “summer slide” to get the best of them. Over the next few weeks, all of our classroom teachers will be emphasizing the importance of reading at least 30 minutes per day over the summer months to stay on track with reading achievement.

As we enjoy many end-of-year activities and programs this month, please take time to recognize and celebrate the many learning accomplishments we get to see each day. Our students have made great gains and will be able to share how they’ve accomplished specific goals throughout the year.

May your family experience many blessings as you celebrate Mother’s Day this weekend!
