Musical Highlights…

soloenThis weekend’s solo & ensemble contest at Random Lake High School once again brought back many memories from my years as a high school music student. I clearly remember waiting outside of the solo and ensemble doors before playing my trumpet or singing a song, hoping that the room would be empty. The nerves that accompany playing or singing in front of a classroom of people with a judge planted squarely in front of you was not my idea of comfortable, yet our Oostburg students embrace this event, signing up in huge numbers to share their talents.

We are definitely blessed in Oostburg to have extremely strong vocal and instrumental music programs, and Saturday allowed our students an opportunity to stretch themselves and show their talents. I walked the halls at Random Lake Saturday with a huge smile, traveling from room to room listening to our young musicians perform.

I would like to extend a special thank you to Rebekah Mueller and Jenna Howell for their energy, leadership, and enthusiasm as they helped our students prepare for their performances. Watching both of them on Saturday you may have thought they were track coaches rather than music directors as they literally ran from one event to the next supporting our students. Mrs. Mueller and Mrs. Howell may be able to take a brief breath today, but it is more likely that they will be pulling together final details for the band & choir trip to Florida which leaves very early this Saturday morning.

So on this Monday morning please join me in extending appreciation and thanks to Mrs. Mueller and Mrs. Howell for preparing our students for very strong performances at solo & ensemble and for giving up their spring break to be with our school music family.

Great job students and great job Mrs. Mueller and Mrs. Howell!

Enjoy this day!
