Music Programs Thrive at OSD

During a time when many school districts across Wisconsin are making budget driven cuts to their music departments, I am pleased to share that Oostburg has taken the opposite approach. I would argue that our music program, and our overall offerings in the arts, are second to none when considering comparable size districts. Fall and early winter provide multiple opportunities to see our talented young people perform. From the excellent fall musical lead by Ms. Lutze to the performances by our band and choir students during Veteran’s Day, we are fortunate to have top notch staff leading strong programs across the board.

The Christmas season offers yet another opportunity to see our students performing as our middle and high school school choir and band concerts are held on 12/7 and 12/14 respectively at 7:00pm in our HS gym. Those in attendance during our recent home boys’ basketball game were entertained by our outstanding pep band, providing yet another example of the musical talents in our community. As a basketball coach I get to hear many pep bands, and can say without hesitation that our band is tops in our conference!

I hope you are able to join us for next Monday’s HS concert. Our students and their directors put a lot of time and effort into their performances, and we look forward to enjoying the sounds of the season as our students perform.

Finally, my recent blog entries have been focused on keeping our community up to date on OSD facilities planning and the school board action related to replacing the 1956 wing of our elementary school. We are developing a Frequently Asked Questions document for our website, and I plan to include 1-2 FAQ’s at the end of each blog post. Please don’t hesitate to contact me directly with any questions or if you would like to visit our schools.

Enjoy this day,

FAQ #1I understand that our school board has approved a resolution to replace the 1956 wing of our elementary school. What opportunities will I have to learn more about this project so I can make an informed decision on February 16th?
