In order to meet the needs of all spectators at Kohlbeck Field, a project has been started to provide eight, special parking spaces along the fence near the ticket booth.
Background: Some spectators for events have difficulty walking to the bleacher area, especially if it is on the visitors’ side. This new parking area would allow them to simply drive in and remain in their vehicles while they watch. The handicapped parking stalls would also be available if they chose. Admission would still be required.
Additional positive factors:
- It provides an opportunity to view events to some who might otherwise not be able to do so.
- It demonstrates to the community and visitors from other communities that the school district is sensitive and responsive in a visible way those with special needs.
- It could be an example to encourage other districts to provide a similar feature if possible.
Timing: Financing to be completed by July 1 and construction by August 1, 2017.
Financing: Funds to be solicited from community donations and/or other possible grants. Volunteer labor and/or equipment could also be encouraged.
Cost: Approximately $12,000 for base and asphalt paving for close to 3,000 square feet. All funding would come from outside of the regular school budget. Make donations to Oostburg High School special parking project.
Please note: This is not “reserved parking” for donors. “First come, first served” will apply.
Anticipated outcome of the project: A positive addition to community resources and a model of how needs can be met in a cooperative, cost-effective way.
