Dear Oostburg Parents,
Our spring musical, The Drowsy Chaperone, concluded on Saturday night, and I would like to congratulate the cast, crew, and directors on their performance. A few things stood out to me, one of which was the large number of “first time” participants in a theater event, and a second was the dramatic (pun intended) growth of our upperclassmen when considering the difference between their first and last performances at OHS. This also had me thinking about our recent Top Ten Banquet and the advice from our seniors to their younger peers. The universal theme was encouragement to get involved early and often. The only regrets I heard from a few of those students was wishing they had become involved in an activity they now loved, earlier in their school experience.
A neat benefit in attending a smaller school is the opportunity students have to participate in a variety of activities. Watching the Drowsy Chaperone I saw students who also participate in athletics, student service and leadership, tech competitions, tutoring…. the list goes on and on. In fact, the play had such strong interest that almost all of the female parts were double cast.
For those families with younger children, we will be celebrating the arts at OES tomorrow evening with our annual spring concert and art show… and don’t forget the chair auction, where families can bid on student-created, hand-painted chairs mimicking the work of various famous artists.
If our spring musical and OES Celebration of the Arts leave you wanting to see even more from the talented students at OSD, you can stop in this Friday evening and Saturday as Oostburg hosts our regional solo and ensemble competition. Students from around the area will be performing group and individual vocal and instrumental pieces throughout the day, and guests can roam from room to room as our students share their gifts. I hope to see you at our upcoming events!
Enjoy this day!
