Student Led Conference and Scheduling Information

Good morning, Parents.

This week we will have homerooms with the freshmen, sophomores and seniors, and the students will be preparing their scripts for the Student Led Conferences.  Last Friday, Mr. Cole reviewed the process in detail with the teachers and I, and we all think the process will be very meaningful for students.  Mr. Cole has built in a lot of resources for the students, and he even developed videos to guide their work.  The students will spend this week’s homerooms preparing, and then they will present their plans in detail to you at the conferences next week Monday or Tuesday.  You can expect your child to present for 10-15 minutes, and that will leave 5+ minutes for questions or discussion.  The facilitating teacher will be prepared to ask some guiding questions, if necessary, to clarify the most important parts of the process, and if parents have questions, those can be discussed at the end as well.

I hope that everyone has already heard from the teacher who will be facilitating your child’s conference, and that you have already set up a time to meet.  If not, please feel free to contact me or Josh Cole, and we will assist in getting you scheduled for a conference.  I would also like to mention that if you would like to see another teacher or two in a more traditional conference, we will have time next Monday or Tuesday for that as well.  The best times for these sorts of meetings would probably be 3:00-4:00 or 6:00-7:00.  If you are interested in a parent/teacher conference beyond the Student Led Conference, it may be best to contact the teacher via email and set up a meeting time as well.
Shortly after the Conferences, we will begin the process of scheduling for next year.  The scripts of the conferences certainly support the course registration process, so we will be setting them up back to back.  We hope the conferences sort of open the door to greater communication between students and parents in the scheduling process as well.  On a somewhat related note, I would also like the parents of freshmen and 8th graders to know that the Driver Education letters and registration forms are available in the HS and MS offices.
We would like to thank parents in advance for your support of the Student Led Conferences.  We hope you find the experience to be well worth your time.
See you next Monday or Tuesday night,
Scott
