Big East Conference Press Release

Good morning, Parents.

Below is the press release designed to introduce the conference that we will be a part of next year. Personally, I am excited about this change. While I am not looking forward to some increased travel, I am excited about the fact that this conference will bigger and stronger—especially in the areas of music and the arts. The Athletic Directors and Principals have been working on the transition from the Central Lakeshore Conference to the Big East Conference for about a year and a half, and while there will be a lot of changes next year, we think the majority of these changes will be positive and exciting. If you have any questions about how things will be structured in the new conference, please feel free to give Molly Hengst or Scott Greupink a call at 564-2346.

Have a great week,
Scott

Press Release:
In 2012, the WIAA began the process of conference realignment in Northeast Wisconsin to address the competitive imbalance that was becoming more evident in conferences around the region due to population growth and decline. This process was a result of a promise that the WIAA made to its member schools several years prior to continue to revisit conference realignment to ensure that all schools, communities, and student-athletes would have a positive experience during their interscholastic experiences. In December 2013, the WIAA and its Board of Directors voted 7-1 to establish a plan that created 10 new conference alignments in Northeastern Wisconsin. One of the new conferences that was created joined together all nine Central Lakeshore Conference schools (Cedar Grove-Belgium, Elkhart-Lake Glenbeulah, Howards Grove, Kohler, Oostburg, Ozaukee, Random Lake, Sheboygan Area Lutheran, and Sheboygan County Christian) with five former Olympian Conference schools (Hilbert, Mishicot, Manitowoc Lutheran, Reedsville, and St. Mary Catholic (formerly Central) in Menasha). For the 2015-2016 school year, these fourteen schools united to create The BIG EAST Conference.

The inaugural season of the BIG EAST will include increased competition for many of the respective sports, including a complete 11 man Conference Football Schedule, Conference Volleyball Tournament at Lakeland College and for the 1st time a Conference Basketball Tournament (Boys and Girls) at Lakeland College. The creation of this new conference will build a very strong small school conference, create new rivalries and additional opportunities in athletics, arts, forensics and music for all of our students.
