Good morning, Parents.
I would like to use my message this week to thank the Oostburg Community Education Foundation (OCEF) for their support of three grant requests this fall, and to let all of our families know specifically how the generosity of OCEF enhances the educational experiences for our students district-wide.
Our Technology department recently purchased a CNC milling machine. This machine provides valuable opportunities to train students using tools that are really relevant to what they will find in future workplaces. CNC technicians, programmers, and process engineers are in high demand across the country, and this equipment provides our technology students enhanced opportunities to prepare for these potential careers in very authentic ways. The OCEF grant request improves our ability to use this equipment because they provided $800 to expand our tooling package which increases the machine’s functionality and provides a broader range of experiences for students in using the machine.
Our school newspaper–the Oh-Say–wrote an OCEF grant request to update their computer hardware because for many years they were using Apple operating systems, while the school district functions pretty much exclusively in a Windows/Google world. The connections between the two systems were often awkward and problematic, and these challenges will be eliminated due to the generosity of OCEF in the form of approving $1200 for the purchase of a Windows desktop system for the production of the school newspaper.
OCEF also granted the request of $1220 to the Second Grade classrooms for mentor texts and support materials to enhance the Readers Workshop process at that grade level. These materials certainly support efforts directly related to our district goals, and the improved reading skills of our young students.
Thanks to OCEF, and all of you who support OCEF, for you ongoing support of education in our community.
Happy Thanksgiving to all of our families,
