Homecoming Week

Dear Parents,
I hope your families are getting into the rhythm of school
and new schedules.  Students are
definitely in a groove now, and we are getting settled into positive learning
routines.
On Friday, your child came
home with the parent/student handbook that summarizes some of our expectations,
routines, and procedures.  Please take a
moment to review the handbook to become familiar with it.  Please take special note of our drop off and
pick up procedures, which are in place to keep our students safe during the
busiest times of the day.  Please
remember that we do not
have supervision on our playground area prior to 8:15 a.m.  We also ask that when dropping your child off
in the morning you use our main entrance area off of 7th
Street.  Since our buses use New York
Ave., we would like to avoid having parent drop-off and pick-up on that street.
When picking up your child at our main
entrance we ask that you only use the marked parking locations and avoid
parking in the areas designated by cones.
Parking is allowed along the sidewalk which splits our parking lots, but
we ask that you do not park east of the gymnasium corner.  We also ask that you do not park where the
cones are located along our circle entrance.
Students are also allowed to exit on 6th street, so you
may want to arrange pick up there to avoid excess congestion.
Thank you for
your support and cooperation as we work to ensure the safety of our students as
they come to and leave from school.
This week we will begin some important
benchmark assessments that we do three times per year to assess the progress
our students are making in reading and math.
These learning check-ups are short but give us valuable information
about how we can meet the needs of our students through intervention. If you
have any questions regarding your child’s learning or progress, please do not
hesitate to contact his/her teacher.  Your
involvement in the process is important to us.
Student excitement around Homecoming Week is
contagious.  We will be participating in
the celebrations on Friday by watching the Homecoming parade at 12:30 p.m.  Go Dutch!
Sincerely,
Ann Steenwyk
