Are you aware that last year alone our Parents Music Club donated $9,719 from running our concessions stands? That money goes directly to our music program allowing things that a regular budget may not provide.
Finding an adequate number of volunteers to help with concessions is a challenge, and that is the purpose of this post. Please check out the following Sign Up Genius links and consider helping out. We have a top notch music program and PMC is a large part of our success. You may also check them out on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/Parents-Music-Club-Oostburg-228450417202494/

Enjoy this day!
With state population growth slowing and unemployment at record low levels many communities are considering the challenges of finding enough people to fill available jobs. The recent Foxconn approval means workforce development demands in Wisconsin will continue to be a priority. Oostburg’s strong business presence, along with the addition of the new Master’s Gallery plant, means we will feel this reality locally as well.
As superintendent I am involed in both the Oostburg and Sheboygan Chamber of Commerce and discussions around workforce development and housing have been central in both organizations. Oostburg School District is playing an active role in this conversation as we seek to fulfill our mission of ensuring all students learn at high levels so they can be productive members of society and the world. I encourage families to check out bit.ly/2xeVsw8 to view our district’s work in Academic and Career Planning (ACP). Our plan has been a model for other districts and is building a strong foundation between a student’s academic preparation at OSD and their transition into the workforce, technical school, college or the military.
A recent survey asked municipal officials to share their perspective on the most important factors in attracting and retaining employees. Available housing in areas with high quality local schools came up as priority #1, ahead of business opportunities, parks, taxes, housing prices, and utility costs. We believe OSD provides an excellent education and is an asset in attracting families and businesses to our community. That helps in making Oostburg a great place to raise a family.
Enjoy this day,
Even though I no longer have a class full of biology students on day 1 of the school year, I feel the same nervous excitement as we welcome students back to @oostburgschools. Last night included the traditional restless rolling over to check my alarm clock – this year at 2am, 3:15am, and 4:10 – don’t want to be late on the first day!
It has been almost 30 years since my student teaching with Mr. Ed Rauwerdink in what is now a science room transformed into Mrs. Szyman’s english classroom. A lot has changed over three decades, but a lot has also stayed the same. I certainly feel the same excitement as we wait for students to fill our halls. I feel the same sense of responsibility as parents entrust us with their children. I feel the same pride as I think about the colleagues that I get to work and learn with each day. Going back to my years in high school it seemed as though there was something different, something special about Oostburg.
So thank you parents. Thank you students. Thank you teachers. You each have chosen Oostburg as your school, and you are what makes this place special. As we begin the 2017-18 school year it is my wish that you enjoy a fantastic year filled with learning, positive relationships, and growth. It is our hope that we can partner together as we seek to fulfill our mission of ensuring all students learn at high levels becoming positive contributors to society and our world!
Please visit the Community Connections page of the site and take a look at our new fitness options. In addition to our community fitness center, we now have a 9-hole disc golf course open to the public, as well as personal training services. We were honored to host a distinguished guest speaker on April 27 – Holocaust survivor Nate Taffel. He was kind enough to fill in for Howard Melton at short notice. His emotional testimony of the terror and struggle of his adolescence spent in labor and concentration camps was filled with perseverance, strength, and a decision to overcome hate. He shares his appreciation of family, friends, and love. Thank you Mr. Kloepping for organizing this important event. http://holocaustcentermilwaukee.org/nate-taffel/ http://www.nathantaffel.com/
